No, I'm an IT geek (Specialise IT security) and up until a couple of years ago had never even put up a shelf or even wired a plug.

We bought our first flat in 2004, which looked quite 'tidy' if not a bit dated. When we came round to decorate, we found that things were not as they seemed.

It started when we tried to take some wallpaper off and the walls crumbled. We constantly had water leaks where the previous owner tried to bodge his own plumbing and endless other issues.

So everything that I have done, I have learnt as I went along. Some things have gone well, but other mistakes I have made have been quite expensive.

The main thing that I really wish I had done, was putting the flooring down before the skirting. I'm really really angry with myself for not doing this. I really hate the beading.

The finish on these is really nice youve done a good job, although i was taught to never plaster right down to the floor just incase there was a major leake on the floor. but excellent work

I was told never to plaster or plasterboard right to the floor on the ground floor, in case of damp? Upstairs is fine though.......so i was told.

Either way lazzerr1 good job dude. Us IT geeks can get our hands dirty when we want to eh?

Your DIY experience pretty much mirrors mine tbh. I'm on a 25sqm extension now, as a few on here know, seeing as i'm picking brain constantly for advice.

But hey, that's what this forum is for.

This was the original plan, but to cut a long story short, we have outgrown it. We live in a 1st floor 2 bed maisonette, with communal garden and have two dogs.

The plan changed from it being a 3 year home. We are now going to keep it an rent it out whilst renting a bigger house (Off of a family member).
