First of all a big hello! What a cracking forum!! :D :D :D :D

I Had my bathroom totally re-done before Xmas. Had a Bristan bar valve shower fitted coming directly off the hot water tank and header tank (oil central heating). Recently, the water is going cold when we're having a shower, why is that???

I first thought it was the hot water had ran out but if you run the sink or bath taps they are fine?? Also, if you touch the bar valve when you are in the shower and its gone cold, its piping hot as it usually is???

Could it be the thermostat in the bar valve?

Any help appreciated

Cheers

SOunds suspect.
It's also likely that your basin takes water from the top of the cylinder (where the exit is) and the shower from lower down, so the shower would run out first
The HW would last longer if you can turn the thermostat on the cyl up, but don't go above 60.

If you work out flow x time and compare with cylinder volume...

All is ok with that, the problem is surely with the bar valve? you can feel the top of hit piping hot but only cold water is coming out????

These are rubbish IMHO. Fitted a Showerforce few weeks ago as a favour for a friend to replace identical model that was leaking like a sieve. Couldnt get damn thing to give above lukewarm shower. Manufacturers reckoned it was faulty installation when I rang them. Half hour job turned into trip to B&Q to exchange it. No more available. Money back. Off to Screwfix, she buys a Triton. Alter pipework to fit, works a treat. Faulty shower all along. And half a day lost.
