AAV

For a Vokera Mynute 12/48.

Will a standard 3/8 or 1/2 AAV fit the boiler? Gotta whip a new pump in one tomorrow and the AAV is shot (leaked).

Obviously a Grunny 15/50 will sort the pump problem out, but would rather sort the AAV at the same time once the boilers drained.

I have both on the van, but if its bespoke to the boiler Ill have to get one and make a 2nd visit. :(

Any advise appreciated guys/gals.

David.

standard aav will fit. good luck getting it out. remove the gas valve to make it easier. often the pump washers will leak after you fit a new aav as you will strain them a fair bit. you may have to take the boiler off the wall if the connections are siezed on bad enough

standard 15/50 or 60 wont fit. only the head will.

Cheers Nickso,

Luckily I have access to the back of the boiler as its in a loft on a man made bracket, so the AAV is readily accessible (from the rear) albeit a bytch to remove as per your reply. Ive allowed a morning so if the boiler has to come off the bracket Ill have to do that.

Appreciate the advice on the pump aswell! The gas valve will have to come out to fit a pump head then (unless I twist it a chance the washers. After the jobs Ive had this week I have a feeling this will be done without a hitch.

Ill let you know how I get on - tales of woe no doubt. :(

David.

should be easy then. just hold the pump to stop as much movement as possible.

gas valve only needs to come out if you are changing aav from the front. its only 5 mins to remove anyway.

I maybe missing something here, but I cant get a hex bar on the pump without removing the gas valve (unless I twist the pump around). The gas valve does look like it will come out really though as per your comment. I did change a gas valve on one of these about 7 years ago and I remember it being a piece of **** I think. :?: I am gassafe before the purists wanna slate me.

David.

if its been replaced before and angled wrong you may have difficulty getting a longer allen t-bar on it. i can usually get a normal allen key in to loosen the right hand ones though.

Hi guys, I work for a local council and change a vokera mynute AAV at least once a month, for what its worth, I find the easiest way to change it is by removing the pump head, this allows access to the AAV with pump pliers, very rare to leak at pump and no disruption to gas valve.

Ill let you know tomorrow. Custard now wants a new 3 port and all new TRV's aswell. Oh, and a magnaclean.

Thats tomorrow sorted - just glad to be busy as Im fully booked for the next 2 weeks aswell including Saturdays.

I only picked up this job because a couple of local companies wouldnt entertain the boiler repair. Not sure why? As I said to the custard.... leave it to me... theres not a boiler that cant be fixed if you know what your doing. If your confident I think the it puts the custard at ease.

I suspect it will be tricky but FFS, I aint stopping an oil leak in the Atlantic am I?

David.

not trying to be rude but if you can't fix a mynute its time for a career change. :)

I am fixing it - tomorrow (custard wanted to wait a day as he is an accountant in London and was busy today). A lot of 'engineers' round here seem to be scared of repairing it. Just wanted a heads up with regards to the pump and AAV as I didnt give a lot of time to work out if a standard pump / aav would fit. My fault and I know that  I appreciate the advice given and Im so sorry for mixing up the atlantic with the gulf of mexico.

David.

not getting on at you mate. was laughing at the other people that couldn't be arsed to repair it.

Job done and what a piece of pi55.

The AAV was on the right hand side - nowhere near the pump. So....
drained, removed gas valve at the union downstream of the gas isolation valve and burner nut. Stuck arm through the boiler and just unscrewed the AAV by hand. Fitted the new one just the same. Didnt even need to get behind it.
Whipped a new pump head on. Fixed in under an hour and a quarter, and refilled (after the other work). That left me the rest on the morning for the magnaclean, 3 port and trv's on all the rads bar 1 (only 4).

Why other engineers shy'ed off is beyond me, but Im glad of nickso's advise as I always like to renew a whole pump. I did offer it up and it looked like the whole one would fit TBH, but Id rather listen to Nickso than trust my own judgement on this one as Ive never had to repair one of these before.

Thanks for all the advise given.

David.

actually i have to apologise, i got it wrong.

the aav would have been on top of a chrome air seperator yes?

pump may well have been standard size body. i was thinking of the 14/48 which has odd sized pump connections and the aav on top.

sorry about that old chap.
