Hi everyone. I was widening my fire place in the kitchen, there is a lintel on the front with brick either side supporting it. But there is another lintel behind that I didn't notice until it was too late. Above this lintel is bricks. They seem to be tied into the whole chimney breast Above. This lintel looks solid and hasn't moved at all. What should I do ? Do I need to worry about it ? Thank you.

Can you draw a circle round what you mean when you say "lintel" (or take another pic that features your hand pointing to your "lintel")?

Looks to me like what I'd refer to as a lintel is still supported at both ends

Think he’s talking about the concrete behind the front face lintel, which now only appears to be supported on the left by a brick sticking out. I’m guessing the gather corbelling previously supported it and has been smashed out

I have attached 2 more pictures with blue lines. The front lintel is good and is supported at either end. But there is another concrete slab behind, I left 1 brick sticking out just in case, even though the slab is solid and doesn't move. I don't know if it is even a lintel or just a bed or concrete. But there are bricks above it. Hope this makes sense. Thank you.

Looks more like something put to close off the chimney. What are your plans for this space?

Looks to me like it was an alcove with a boiler or stove ducted to the left through the (now removed) brickwork, hence the soot staining within.

It would be helpful if you have photos of the scene before, and also what's on the floor above. I'm wondering if there's a bedroom fireplace sitting on top of that concrete slab.

I'd put an acro prop or very solid length of timber under it while planning your next move, before something bad happens.
