Simond said that the GAH are attempting to introduce a pressure charging pump on their accumulator. I hasn't arrived yet to my knowledge.
Pumps are not allowed on the cold water mains, except in rare circumstances They don't want suction on the mains network.
A way around that is to determine the flowrate at peak time through the stoptap. and fit a flow regulator at the stoptap matching the peak time flow. There will not be excessive draw on the mains then at any time.
Fit an accumulator and charging pump and charge the system say from 1.5 bar to 4 or 5 bar. When the pump (a high pressure, low flow) charges the accumulator no excessive robbing of the water network will occur.
When the system pressure drops to say 2 bar the pump cuts in to recharge. A pressure reducer can be on the outlet of the pump/accumulator to give say 2.5 to 3 bar. Or belt and braces, a flow switch after the pump and accumulator, so the pump is held off while water is being drawn off. The pump only operates when there is no water draw-off in the house.
This must be acceptable to the water companies. Would they approve such a setup?
