Hi there

My first post here - hopefully this doesn't repeat questions. I am looking to reduce some sound coming through walls in a mid-terraced house whose walls are only a single brick thick in width.

I'd read that having an air gap between the wall and plasterboard (in my case - acoustic plasterboard) helps prevent sound travel and indeed filling any air gap with the likes of acoustic partition roll works however I'm loath to put any battens on the wall and go down that route in case I go through the brickwork into the neighbour's property with the drilling given our party wall is literally a brick width in thickness.

Is dot-and-dab of plasterboard a half-decent acoustic solution. I'm only really looking to block out conversations/radio/TV from next door that I can hear given the thinness of the party wall.

Thanks for any feedback (and apologies if I've repeated a question)

How much of your room are you prepared to lose? To maximise acoustic dampening, ideally you'd build a new stud wall not fixed to the original, and use insulation between the studs. This might lose 3+ inches from your room but will pretty much deaden any noise from next door.

On the other hand, you could poison you neighbours 😊

Ha! Not sure if I'll go to the extent of your last suggestion but thanks for the suggestion. I'm not on a huge budget so am concerned about the cost of the insulation between the studs as well as the space I'd lose by using a new stud wall - my property is quite narrow.

Cheers
