My 1930's terraced house had the stacks knocked out years ago, the plastering is such a pigs ear that I've knocked it all off. Now I see loose bricks sitting in the wall where the soot has been, can I mortar them in or will it make a terrible stink due to the soot, if so, how do I fit the bricks solidly?
