The cabin is a wooden framed, plywood clad construction, with a textured finish.
I want to clad it with boards and battens to match existing stable and outbuildings.
1. Could I deck screw the boards and battens straight onto the existing finish, or should I place horizontal battens then the vertical cladding?
Obviously there are door and window casings to consider.
2. If the latter (or even if the former?) is it worth adding a waterproof/breathable membrane, or do I assume that the existing exterior coating would prevent moisture ingress?
3. I assume that if I wanted to add insulation, this would be better added to framing on the inside, not put between the existing exterior and the board and batten cladding I'm adding on the outside?
