Hi,

I am doing some work in the loft, which currently has 2 lights controlled by a single switch. I wish to add another light and switch to system, were the new switch will only control the new light. The new light will never be used independently from the existing lights (the new light is for a storage area only). The existing lights should not depend on the new switch.

The current setup looks as follows:

[code:1]
===/mains/==
light1 ===== light2
== /switch/ ==
[/code:1]

The first light has 2 cables going to it, switch and mains. Light2 only has single cable from light1.

Would the following work:

[code:1]
===/mains/==
light1 ===== light2 ===/new switch/==new_light
== /switch/ ==
[/code:1]

Hope the diagrams are not confusing.

Thanks in advance.

ok, so let me get this straight in my head..
you have light A and light B..
you want to add another light C
you want to be able to switch light C off and still have light A and B on
Light C will never be on if Light A and B are off ( presumably you have to go through the area A and B light to get to area C? )

then yes, as you've shown will work fine.

I would however recomend a double pole switch..
