Adding skim beads to existing wall or radius

I have an opening in a high traffic area. It's like a doorway without a door between hall and kitchen. Currently the wall is floated and there aren't any beads. The corners keep chipping.

I don't want to skim the whole wall, so I think I have two options. Any thoughts?

1. Try and evenly round off the corners with a sander or similar. Not sure how to get it really even.

2. Remove some skim and add skim beads. Could I do this with a rasp? What's easiest?

Cheers, is it as strong as the steel beads? Would you feather it in?

I wouldn't think as strong as metal beads but a lot better than nothing and fine for normal domestic use, The advantage is that it's flat so not much feathering in compared to the metal ones.They can be stuck on with no nails.
