Advice for front door handle / lock issue

My neighbour has just locked himself out.
He has a pvc door & brass handle where once he closes the door the handle from outside cant be pulled down.
On my door the only way for it to lock is by using a key.
As opposed to replacing his handle / lock etc can i do something to his so at least if he does it again he can get back in
