Hello All,

Can someone run through the right way to paint my new skirting and door frames. i've been told a satin finnish is nicer? i've got some "Knot Stopper" Also is there any alternative to oil base gloss and what are they like?

Thanks

Ok..firstly the materials...

Knotting

acrylic primer undercoat

Filler

Caulk

Acrilic satin or eggshell

Put a coat of knotting on the knots, making sure you cover them completely..use an old brush or a piece of rag to apply it...and throw it away after, or you wiill need meths to clean the knotting from the brush (not white spirit or water)

Allow to dry and then apply a coat of primer undercoat (thinned by 10%)

Then fill the nail heads etc

Rub down, then caulk the gaps along the tops of the skirtings and edges of the architraves.

Dust or hoover

Then apply two coats of acrylic eggshell.

Keep the room cool when your applying the eggshell it dries very quickly which could result in dragging marks from the brush.

Use a good quality synthetic filament brush such as a Prudy.

Start with the door frame and work down, doing the skirtings last

Thanks for that!

Only 9 rooms to do.

P.S. - does anyone have a filler they can recommend?
