Our property is adjacent to a railway line and subject to vibrations. The existing patio slabs have shifted and joints opened up over the years. Research has suggested putting down paver grids. Has anyone experience of installing these? Are they the same as gravel grids ie sitting on top of a fully compacted sub-base and then you sit the pavers on top or, are they made to the exact size of the slab which then slots into each 'pocket' in the grid, the grid being locked together?

My second query: we intend replacing one area run of pavers with turf and then a gravel edge, 6 inches wide maybe, alongside the wall. We'd put this in a grid to keep it in place. What would be the norm for size of gravel? My wife also suggested resin to keep it all in place. My worry is if the resin cracked it would look worse. Are there any negatives to having this gravel edge? I'm thinking, water run-off making the turf edge soggy.

What is the construction process please for putting down the edging and turf? I was thinking, turf to the wall and then cut back for the edging; install weed membrane then gravel-grid and then gravel and then pour over with the resin. Does this sound about right?

Pic shows where slabs and sub-base have been removed. Approx 800 wide
