I want to keep the wood's character and the darker piece's age and patina (La Di Da).

I prefer a duller finish on furniture, so I don't want anything too shiny.

But I would like to tone down the damage, particularly the mug marks, as much as possible.

I guess I could sand the pine, but I like the matt finish, and I have no idea how this was originally achieved.

What would you suggest for each item?

In the first picture the rings are where the stain has been washed off, the only answer is to sand to even then start again, good luck trying to find a matching stain if you dont.
Second one is a wash with a wood bleach then stain/varnish as required.
If you want any sort of reddish colour watch out for the Tandoori look
