Advice on type of lintel

Hi
I have an integral garage in my house and I am moving the garage door
forward 2.6 meters to be level with the front wall of the porch. I will be building a pier against the neighbours wall to support a lintel and the other end will be supported on an existing porch wall. Its 2.4m wide and will need to support a small pitched roof going back from the garage door to the house wall 2.6 meters.
I would think that a wooden lintel would be ok but I dont know what dimensions to put in my buildings regs application.

Any ideas would be greatly welcomed

A pair of 225mm x 50mm bolted together......?

And be sure that the pier can take the load from the roof trying to push it forward - ie make sure the rafters is adequately braced to prevent them spreading
