oh, I thought that the hw in the coil would constantly heat up if it was selected on the programmer.

useally gravity hw systems with no cyl stat or valves rely on the boiler stat and just keep cycling.
so you end up with scalding dhw

So i was sort of right in thinking that if it just kept heating up and you switched this valve he's thinking of fitting, it will just keep venting into the loft?

if you stop the water circulating as in a valve or what ever, the boiler won't fire up after the boiler stat cuts out cause the waters not leaving the boiler and coler water returning to keep the boiler stat low etc.

So does the boiler have seperate stats for heating and hot water?
