AEG - Frost Free Freezer - completely frozen! repair options?

Hi, my (frost free) freezer in my integrated fridge freezer model AEG SCN71800S1 - has completely frozen over.


Please see images attached.

I'm aware "The absence of frost is due to the continuous circulation of cold air inside the compartment, driven by an automatically controlled fan" - so i melted all the ice off the fan and also behind the panel and around the bottom of it.... however that didn't last long lol.

The section behind the bottom panel had completely iced up and the hole at the bottom had completely frozen up.

Is this a possible DIY repair job, or do I need to get it done professionally (or going for the AEG fixed price repair £165 option) or am i better off replacing the whole unit?

Probably the defrost heating element needs replacing.

It keep on happening to ours years ago, started happening from almost new, several visits and then major replacements cant recall what but took out the main circuits, the elements regased etc and working 100% after years of use.

Btw, if your fridge is fitted in a like a glove, may be worth getting it fixed as long as you get some warranty with it as it is diffuclt getting the colour/desgin and measurements of the one you have.

If you manually defrost it, you have to empty it, turn it off, and wait until it has stopped dripping, inside and out.

Ice that has blocked and choked the internal ducts is not visible or accessible so takes a long time to melt. Possibly a couple of days.

If you plug it back in before all the ice has gone, you have wasted your time.

It's worth giving it one try and watching to see if it chokes again, and how long it takes.

Verify that the doors are sealing so tight that you can't pull a strip of paper out at any point.

Buy a thermometer and verify that the actual temperatures are correct.

Does the fixed-price repair guarantee the fault will be fixed?

I've had Bosch repair things and offer a 1-year contract (for any subsequent calls) for about the same price. Via D&G I think.
