Air Gaps in soil and waste pipes

Hi Lads,

Regarding air gaps in soil (110mm) and waste pipes (32 and 40mm) in houses are air gaps provided in pipes above ground only inside the house or outside where the sunshine can penertrate the pipes. Would you provide air gaps to soil pipes below ground? this is all to do with thermal movement.

Any answers are appreciated.
