I had a new Worcester Bosch heat only boiler fitted nearly a month ago with one of those filters inline above the boiler. The heating bloke also replaced a manual bleed valve with what he said was an automatic one in the airing cupboard upstairs. He did this off his own back, fair enough. I have not had to bleed the manual one for about 20 years. When he had finished installing everything there was a trickling noise from the filter which he said was a bit of air and to bleed the valve on top of the filter which I did but had to stand on some step ladders to see where and what I was doing. A couple of days ago it needed bleeding again. Now why is the automatic air bleed valve in the airing cupboard not dealing with this? (See photo) Also he put a 250 ml bottle of Fernox into the system when refilling, he left the bottle. Now I used to put a 500 ml bottle in when I used to empty and clean out the f&e tank, draining some water off before adding the inhibitor and refill. Is 250 ml enough for an 11 rad property?

did you leave the black cap top open ? 250ml seems a bit small to me

Did not know you had to leave it open. Was not told this. Thought 250 mls a bit low might add some more. Thanks for info.

Fernox do a 265ml bottle - it will cover 100L and is an ideal size to top up a system that already has a level of inhibitor.

AAV's are actually meant to be left open all the time, hence the automatic nature of them but in reality a lot of them do leak after a time, usually in places that aren't monitored. Some are a lot better than others and are open all the time. The bottle float type can be bad for leaking.

I use Flamco Flexvents, never had a problem with them leaking up till now (touch wood).
