Air trapped in open vent system

The Airjec will work configured like that. For those that don't know it's purpose is to slow down the speed of water flow by virtue of it's larger bore to give the air time to come out of solution.

Sadly as every plumber on here knows that also means that crap in the system also drops out of the flow due to the reduced velocity and they are notorious for blocking

Looking at it again I would try turning the marked valve off. It appears to go directly from the flow after the pump to the return.

There's no need for a bypass on that system unless you have all the trvs turned off

My 54 year old oil fired OV system with some rads over 45 years simply has a bit of pipe from the bottom of the F&E cistern teed into the 22mm vent where it passes up and over, a more or less combined Vent & Cold Feed. I have a gate valve on the mains supply to the cistern ballcock and just crack it open when refilling the system after one of its very infrequent drain downs. Will post a photo when I get home shortly.

Below is my Combined vent&cold feed, complimented by the 54 year old (£7) Santon dual element, top mounted Immersion that I re installed in this existing twin coil solar cylinder 20 years ago after removing it from the original then 34 year old cylinder, it's a 3 wire, note the c/o switch conveniently located right on top of the Immersion cover.

Was very common round here particularly on old oil systems.
Notoriously slow to fill sometimes the systems can be really mucky.

Wait until you find out where they used to keep the boiler
