When installing alarm cables through floors, what is the minimum distance they need to be from the LV cables? If they come close to the LV cables what is the best thing to do, would putting extra sheathing round the alarm cable thats close to the LV do?

Is a foot the minimum distance? Would adding extra insulation on part of alarm cable which breaches minimum distance be ok?

I was under the impression that you had to have insulation that was suitable for the highest rated of the cables, ie Lv higher than ELV

it should not be nar any mains cables.

if you have to run it adjacent a mains cable you should use screened cable.

truth is most alarms do not worry about induced emf (not unless its a big load on the mains)

there are two issues, electrical safety and interference.

from an electrical safety point of view if they have to run close then ideally all cable should have mains rated insulation though in practice the risk is very low provided the mains wiring is double insulated.

from an interference point of view correctly earthed metal screens may need to be used depending on how sensitive the wiring is (though TBH i wouldn't expect either alarm of phone wiring to be all that sensitive)
