My concern about those lights is that they are possibly still too small, and the beam possibly still to narrow, but I've not seen them in use.

Clearly one man's tasteful light is another man's hideous abomination, but in defence of the "commercial CFL fittings", they look no more, or less, "commercial" than the ones above, which the site shows being used in a commercial setting [ASIDE]It looks like the restaurant at the Eden Centre to me[/ASIDE].

You have a thin white ring and a circle of frosted glass, and when you look up you see this

with an overall diameter of 177mm, or about 7" in old money. Not exactly the industrial look.
