I have an old combi boiler (Worcester 240).

There was a timer next to it. And in the lounge an analogue thermostat with 2-wire connection.

I've changed the (lounge) thermostat to a digital thermostat/timer (Dayton Digistat 3) and all worked fine.

So I wanted to remove the old timer and eliminate it. i.e. simply ensure it remains 'always on' so that the control is now from the Dayton Digistat.

However, on taking off the old timer, I'm now confused.
4 wires:
Blue
Red
Yellow
Black

I know that if I connect the red and yellow together, the heating is on permanently (right?). So that's no good. All I want is to isolate the wires I don't need, and connect whatever ones are needed to make the Dayton Digistat and boiler think the old timer is 'on'. Does that make sense?

Do please let me know asap.

Thanks

Thanks GasSafeMan/Paul... it took me a while to try and work out which were the original COM and ON wires from before (the old timer more or less disintegrated on removing it)...and one blown fuse later, managed to sort it.
It was the Yellow and Black wires. Now working.
Thanks

One would imagine the black and yellow should be connected together and red & blue made safe, however as you have not said what they were connected to in the first place I'm only making an educated guess.

Thanks Mick
Still breathing - half an hour later, so it seems all is well.
Won't be fiddling with it again until the boiler gets replaced, so hopefully my lessons learnt can be quickly forgotten.

Thats why I removed my post. I hate guessing at electrics!

Paul.
