Hi all
New member but long time lurker
We have a Stanley Alhpa oil stove/boiler installed in our house. Previous owner had a Google nest thermostat installed and apparently the whole CH system worked perfectly.
When he moved out he took he nest and refitted a 30 year old Honeywell analogue thermostat.
Since moving in last December the central heating turns on when it wants not when we want.. figured it was a dodgy thermostat and have replaced it with a new Honeywell DT40 today
We have a Channel Plus XL H37 3 channel controller acting as the middle man, channels controlling the cooker the CH and the HW. HW works every time, kicks in on program or on over ride.
Oven kicks in on time when programmed to do so (we have set this to off). CH doesn't work as expected. We have set it to come on at say 5pm until 7pm, the house is 15 degrees inside, stat set to 19. CH doesn't turn on. I have eventually set the on all the time, so in theory the thermostat should now control it firing on and off... still no. It randomly turns on at 8pm until 11pm... 4am until 5am... it may randomly turn on during the day I don't know no ones here, but previous owner worked from home.
The new thermostat today knows its not currently at temp, has the light on it stating its requesting CH to fire up but boiler isn't doing it... I dont think the boiler is faulting cause the HW works.. is the Channel Plus controller faulty maybe?
I'm a truck mechanic by trade so whilst I understand the basics of house DIY I can relate to vehicles, this seems to me like a malfunctioning ECU
Thanks in advance
