Is it a bad practice to mix aluminium and steel radiators?
Is there a special inhibitor required if they are to be mixed?

Steel preffers a more alkaline water, where as aluminium doesnt cope well with that, doesnt mean you cant have mixed metals in the system, but I'd be sure to properly dose the heating with "Good" inhibitor. Sentinel or Fernox, none of the cheap stuff as while it says its suitable for aluminium most of the systems I see with issues in the aluminium have all been dosed with cheap inhibitor
