I removed a screwed-in burglar alarm thing from an aluminium back door (hinged) that was fitted before we moved into the house, and as I did so I noticed I could see the sky through the screw holes.
I never really thought about how these doors are made before, but basically it is made out of hollow sections, and the hinge and lock uprights are just open to the elements. Is this normal? If not, how can I rectify it? The door opens outwards and therefore is mounted to match the outside of the opening, meaning rain must have been getting into it for some time without any apparent harm. All the same, it doesn't seem quite right
