Thought he was an all-round decent geezer, a nice guy.
He grew up in a home, and ended up making a huge contribution to broadcasting, editing several newspapers.
This, to me anyway, says it all:
He told how when he rang directory enquiries on one occasion the operator asked: "Is that Derek Jameson?"
