hi

sorry to be asking questions in my first post but i seem to have got stuck with a heating problem, ill explain

i came home after work on monday and there had been a powercut (well actually the electric key didnt get charged) so the house was cold when we came in, not unexpected

we switched the heating back on and it seemed to work correctly, but after a while it seemed that the radiators were not getting hot

i thought it might be the pump but this seems to be working...if i move the switch from position three to position one i can hear water moving through the pipes, the pipes are also pretty hot!

the boiler turns on and again the pipes leading to the boiler are red hot but it turns off within about 40 seconds and stays off for around 15mins before coming back on again for a short time, the pipes near the pump and the boiler stay hot throughout this period

i have not checked the rads for air as i cant seem to find a key to fit (well i didnt in b+Q) but the rads are stone cold so its like there is nothing being fed to them

any advice would be appreciated!!!!! (this house if fooking freezing!!)

regards, brian

yes i read that (or parts of it) and there is a section on "hot water but no heating" but it looks like it written for a plumber rather than a newbie

two days with no heating....bloody freezing!

then i run a bath and the water is way too hot, the boiler stays on now and the rads are roasting :)

i have no idea why it started working but im not complaining!

ill fill those questions out in the link in my next post as it would be nice to know if something is on its way out or if it was a gremalin
