Hi,
After reading meany loft questions and answers, I've came up with a plan if attack for my loft, just want to check I'm doing it right before I go ahead.

I've insulated between my joist's, I intend to screw some 2x2 along the joist as not to compress the insulation, then board over it.

Is that right?

Or should I put the 2x2 going over the joists and board along them? Surly that would be weaker tho?

Also a quick question, I'll screw the 2x2 to the joist then the board to the 2x2, should I use a long screw to go through the 2x2 to the joist? Also should I make pilot holes?

Thanks dan

What thickness insulation have you laid? If only between the joists then I guess not more than 100mm when in fact you ought to be looking for 200mm+ and ideally 300mm, if you are really wanting to improve insulation. The extra 50mm you will gain by using 2x2 timber isn't really going to give you much benefit when you are going to all that trouble. I would go for 4x2 at least so you gain 100mm for another layer on insulation.

Hi, sorry about the slow reply, I've put down 100mm insulation, my joists are 75mm so I should have roughly 25mm gap. I'm only boarding half of my loft for storage, the rest of the loft will get extra insulation
