Hi all

I've been googling all morning and tried to get the cover off my tap with all kinds of different tools but not joy. Here is a link to an image of the cover plate http://www.diynot.com/network/georginad/albums/21122/78930 and here is the whole tap http://www.diynot.com/network/georginad/albums/21122/78931

I've been trying to see what make it it but can't find it. The plate is totally round, totally flush and there are no notches or screws to be found.

Utterly frustrated. Can anyone help? There is hardly any water coming out (yes I shut off the water already) and I think the washer needs replacing. All the other taps in the house are fine.

Thanks in advance.

The top infil might lever out with a small screwdriver or knife blade,
or otherwise the "coin" sized disc on the top screws off.
Something like this will do it.

Or normal water pump pliers with some layers of insulation tape to cushion the jaws.

Then the shrouds where the tap meets the body can be unscrewed and removed to gain access to the fixing nut for the tap.

Thanks Footprints. We tried posing it off with a screwdriver (no good) and with a knife blade (cue First Aid kit - not for me). Looks like a trip to Homebase is in order. Fingers crossed.

I hope that meant you decided not to do it that way and not that you had a trip to A&E with someone after trying it.

The "coin" should screw off by hand but it gets crugged up with scale you could try wrapping a bit of kitchen towel around it and soaking in vinegar for half an hour or so to try and dissolve it. Then try gripping it with a rubber kitchen glove, or one of those rubber discs for getting off difficult jar lids.

Ah brilliant! Done it! The rubber glove tip was a really good one and perfect to know that its a screw off rather than a lever off job.

Footprints - first aid kit was for the cut the other half sustained whilst trying to prise it off with a kitchen knife. No - I didn't know he was going to do it. Oh well.

You are both utter stars - THANK YOU! :D
