Any tips as to get rid of Red ants in the lawn, as they bite or sting!!

It's ant season, deal with it, you'll never beat 'em.
Is it just my lawn or do ants preferentially build their "sand castles" by bringing up clay rather than topsoil ?
I fed up having to dig up clay ant mounds and level the lawn off. Some of them are so big my lawn mower blades hit them ! 2007 was a bumper year for the red ants - Chemical warfare seems to be the answer.
