We have an Ideal Response 100 combi boiler which is heating water, but after the tap is switched off you no longer here the whoosh of water in the radiators/pipes afterwards. On heating mode it whistles, after about a minute it starts to gurgle, overheats and the pressure gauge quickly increases.

Had engineer out last night who is at a bit of a loss as to the problem. He checked the expansion vessel and was happy with water/air in that, although he did point out some of the rubber in it might be breaking down as a section of the water coming out was black. The pressure gauge is as he would expect. He played about with the pump, by unscrewing the front and adjusting it inside, which eventually got it going but this morning it's not working again. He doesn't think there's an airlock in the system as when the heating was running, all radiators were hot all over. He's coming out again later, but has pointed out he's still not totally convinced it's the pump which is the problem. Has anyone got any further thoughts on whether it could be the pump or if he should look at something else.

you can't adjust a pump from the inside

its sticking / running slow

The pump will have been stuck and he spun it to get it working again.

This is usually caused by dirt in the system.

It sounds as if the pump has stuck again. I usually manage to clean them out but most people just replace them.

So far I doubt if there is anything else wrong.

Engineer called again today and it turns out a switch on the side of pump to adjust pump speed had been knocked off I guess during service. Obviously no charge on this occasion!
