Yes but when we had Gas Mantles we didn't have Gas Turbine Generators did we? The gas distribution network has been there, in one form or another, for a LONG time. I hardly think its fair to say leaders lacked foresight. They do lack a great deal of things granted!

What about that program on the other night about the amount of gas the UK has to import now from volitile foreign countries.
It said the UK had decades of of natural gas supplies but was all exported off to other countries.
Surely this was a lack of foresight , was it not , ?.

The program mentioned some group who were not listened to (which I cant remember the name off) that advised the government at that time not to export the gas, but rather keep it for the domestic supply.
