Anyone else concerned about uk gearing up for war?

Apparently the government are planning on starting to gear up for on the ground warfare. Starting with current 'retired' army personnel, to be followed by school recruitment drives and later, possibly conscription and voluntary home-guard. All persons up to the age of 65 will be effected. It's starting Spring 2027 and aims to be fully in place (potentially) by 2030.

It is all quite worrying.

Anyone else concerned about all of this?
 
It's a drill, nothing is changing as part of this but we're testing readiness and capability. That's a good thing.

Our lack of readiness to fight modern warfare is more concerning.
 
Successive governments have devastated our armed forces. At the moment we couldn't even defend this small island leave alone the brits down in the Falklands. I'm not particularly agreeable with retired army personnel being recruited mainly because of age and the fact that they have done their bit. I will concede that the expertise is there (and that expertise is right across the board and not just the expertise in killing people) so from that point of view I suppose that is acceptable as I am a vet myself although far too old now to be of any use. Conscription would, in my view, be a good thing but not to go and fight a war unless the conscriptees volunteered to do that. America, Russia, North Korea and 90% of the middle east are now our enemies. The cold war never ended regardless of what the pundits might tell you. We do have nukes but they would only be used in a retaliatory response by which time it would be too late as most of UK would be devastated in the first hour or so, and we need america's permission to use them anyway. We do need to bring our armed forces up to an acceptable level to, at least, defend the UK and at the moment that is absolutely not the case. Of course there will be the clowns who disagree and would welcome the likes of putin etc to be able to march into the UK. We also have to think about the sleeper terrorists that may or may not be in the UK and whether they are there or not is immaterial we still have to be ready in case.

Our enemies are Europe.

We would do well to take our righful place alongside Trump and the USA - they are our friends and we do ourselves no favours by continuously slapping them in the face.

It's more than a drill. They're bring back in retired military personnel apparently.
I agree that we should be prepared. That doesn't change the worrying aspect. This'll bring me, my children and my wife into the fray.
It's a ****-take that this is all due to 'our' inclusion being purely due to the economic benifits of someone else's war.
 
Imagine if countries could just learn to live at (genuine) peace with one another, thus avoiding the need for all this stuff.

Nah, don't be daft, too much to be gained by perpetual warring right left and centre. Not by the proverbial cannon fodder or innocents killed, but by the higher ups.

Jeez, we never learn. We never will. I suppose we might ultimately be the masters of our own downfall right enough.
 
Our Friends are Europe. Should be making plans with them. Next conflict is going to be techno based and massive use of drones to damage vital infrastructure. That's why every country has been sending "advisers" to Ukraine /Russia conflict to learn the current drone capabilities , and prepare for accordingly .

You've probably made that soft spot of yours available for poo tin as well ;)
 
considering the vast majority of under 25s are effectively useless with anxiety and other mental issues - i'm not holding much hope we can defend ourselves
