Anyone made a "pan" for leakage??Had an idea...

I'm in the process of installing some 800mm wide kitchen units in the utility room in a 2000mmx700mm space. The other 1200mm accommodates the freezer and washer. The washer is now 11yrs old, but it's a Siemens so still working fine. Having lifted the flooring I began wondering just what damage would occur if it leaked badly- the laminate is continuous to outside the utility room and down the hall each way, so if water got under it it would be a disaster, and if it was a slow leak the damage could be significant as our neighbour discovered when one of her washer inlet hoses wasn't tightened enough....
I've now thought about making a ply "pan" for it, and would fully waterproof this with epoxy resin or liberal coats of varnish, with some thin tiles in each corner to stop any vibration friction from the spin cycle wearing through this.
Does anyone know what dimensions these pans are? Surely if it leaked bad it would be a waste of time if it overflowed?
So, having a timber sectioned floor with 300mm cavity leading to the ground outside, and the house is on stilts(200mm) I've had the idea to install a sink outlet thing and a length of hose and put this through the floor to the outside. So it would look kind of like a shower tray with the outlet dropping directly out of the house for emergency use only.

Does this sound feasible? B&Q sell the sink kit things, or I'm sure something else could be improvised???

Lead cistern safes used to be installed underneath lead-lined wooden cisterns but I don't know how they'd cope with a washing machine on top.

Could you just slope the floor finish to a sump and put a water detector alarm there?
