Hi all,

If you get a small belt of a appliance, ie. dishwasher. How do you test the metal casing to see what voltage, if any is running through it ?

Obviously with a multimeter, but where is the probe not touching the casing ?

Thank you all..

On whatever else you might have been touching at the time you got the shock. For example the floor, the sink, any other appliance nearby, a pipe, radiator, boiler, wall rack.

The fault might be in the other object.

Also test against the earth and screws in nearby sockets and switches, and any screws in the wall or floor.

IIRC there was an electrocution from a knife or utensil rack screwed to a wall.
