Measuring Mains Voltage - Blown Multimeter ?

There's no way on earth you can compare a piece of far eastern cr4p with an AVO Multiminor
I couldn't agree more (the piccies were just to 'prove' that it still works, some 55 years on :) ).

However, I was making the point that long before we knew about CAT III/IV markings, meters could be safe to use. I also have some "far eastern cr4p' meters of a similar vintage which still work, and which I would also be happy to use for measuring mains voltages.

Kind Regards, John

Just to say - 'far eastern crap' is manufactured to specifications required by far western companies.

I'd rather have a new Lexus than the old meter.

Incidentally, the word crap isn't censored.

A lot of it obviously is. Indeed, I don't think that many products, particularly electronics-related ones, are any longer manufactured by 'far western companies' themselves in 'far western countries'.

However, there are plenty of 'anonymous' or 'unashamedly far eastern' products out there - which may or may not be 'crap' (and it wasn't me who introduced that word into this discussion!). I certainly have very many products manufactured in the far east (with or without 'western branding') with which I am perfectly happy.
