the boards that were in my shower were covered in mold underneath the tiles somehow, So I'm guessing the wrong board may have been used?

I've removed all the old board and was wondering whats the best board to use that won't go moldy?

I've been looking at Aqua board and no more ply but not sure whats the best and what else you can get?

Thanks

I've done my shower with Aquapanel, and it's easy to cut and fix, and provides a great surface for tiling. Cement based and you can't go wrong.

I have done two bathrooms, the later with NMP and it was a good board but a pain to work with.

Cutting the board with the scoring boar and snapping them is not as easy as it states in the installation guide (yes using the NMP knife)
Drilling in to them is tough and cutting it requires a quite solid blade.
Plastering the celling was not very successful as some of the plaster fell down.
Not priming it properly could be the cause here.

Only tried NMP because we could not find Aquaboards.
New bathroom will be build with Aqua boards mainly due to simplisity to work with Aquaboards

Have fitted Aquapanel a few times and it was as easy as fitting plasterboard. To cover joins, stick plasterers mesh tape over the joint using tile adhesive - at the time of tiling. I also use a bit of clear sealant between the panel edges.

Your board failed not because it was wrong but because the tiling/grouting/sealant failed. The good thing about Aquapanel is that even if it does get wet, it doesn't warp or turn to mush.
