Are these cables ok to be left like this?

In my loft I came across 2 cables that are live and just loose ends connected to nothing. They come from below so I’m guessing lighting of some sort for upstairs bedroom.

I turned the electricity off, stripped the wires down and pushed the exposed ends into 24A, 400v electrical connectors (all I had lying around) pic below

If I thoroughly wrap the electrical connectors and cables with electrical tape, would they be safe to leave?

No, they need to be terminated in a proper box, with the grey outer entering the box, and clamped.

Better, would be to trace where they come from, and isolate them properly.

Ok, ok get some terminal boxes. I don’t want to cut a hole out of ceiling to trace them so I’ll just put them in a terminal box

Would one of these be suitable?

If I decide to use an Wago box instead, Are the cable connectors I’ve used sufficient for the job though?

Cheers

If the box is mounted on a joist or similar and then the cable clipped with a cleat just before it enters, then all would be ok. Terminate the cable inside as I don't think the blocks would fit inside it, could be wrong though.

OOI - When you mean below, do the cables align right down at a switch, right down a light fitting, right down a fan, right down at a pullcord, or right down a socket?

I wonder what it was for, and I wonder what left the previous person, who did that, to leave two live cables dangling in the loft, waiting to cause harm.

Brown and black - 3 core?

One was brown and black with an open wire so I put an earth sleeve on it

The other cable was black and open wire so I put an earth on that also

Do not mark a conductor as earth unless you know for certain that it is an earth. Unfortunately some numptys incorrectly have been know to use a spare conductor as a live.

So should I remove the earth sleeve… what should I do with the exposed length of wire though?
