Hello

I have what I highly suspect to be an asbestos soil and downpipe which is now desperately in need of replacement (it is leaking and has a hole!). Question is whether this is a job for a plumber, gutter specialist or asbestos removal company? Does anyone know if you can get someone competent to remove the asbestos and install a new pipe afterwards or do I need to be looking for separate people to do this? I have tried searching online for this sort of thing in my area (Exeter, Devon) but not really found anything that seems suitable. I have sent some emails off to asbestos and guttering people but suspect I may need to coordinate these two?

If I did have to coordinate them is it possible to live without a soil/downpipe for a couple of days providing we don't use the toilet?

Very grateful for your help on this.

Plumber can do it, as long as they're careful taking the Asbestos down, try to avoid breaking it if at all possible, keep it damped down to avoid creating dust, wear suitable PPE, and it is suitably wrapped, ready for disposal, then shouldn't be an issue. Ask your Local Council if they have any facilities for Householders to dispose of asbestos waste, if not you'll need to find a specialist contractor who can take it.

If any third party takes it off your hands, make sure you get a Waste Transfer Note. This is a legal requirement with controlled waste.
