Hi,

We moved house this year and found that the asbestos roof garage has a hole in it (about the size of tennis ball), Anyway I don't have enough money to replace it this year and wonder about making a temporary repair that would hold good for a couple years. Obviously I would get a facial mask to wear but I am wondering what sort of material I could use to patch over the hole with and how to bond it. I am assuming I would patch it from above and use bitumen to waterproof it / bond the edges to stop any asbestos getting airbourne - any tips / ideas?

3 years ago my asbestos garage roof had chunk off near the gutter causing it to leak inside. I fixed it with a fibreglass kit bought from Halfords. Its still fine and holding, although Im replacing the roof this year.

yup flashband it is! most builders merchants diy sheds will stock it.

Cheapest and safest way to repair is to buy a tube af sticks like **** this is trade name, get a 6 inch piece of roofing felt or DPC stick over the hole from outside, job done DPC will last nearly for ever and sticks like **** will adhere to virtually anything cost for the lot 5.00 quid

Note, asbestos should not be cut or rubbed in any way shape or form, try to leave well alone even though it could be low risk asbestos and when you do get rid of it you will need to get rid as hasidous waste double bagged if low risk and specialist removers if high risk.

hope this helps , ps flash band will work too as suggested.

prime and stick this stuff down for a temp fix.

is that called Flashband? What DIY place sells it? Wickes, B&Q?

thx

Hello, I was serching cracked cill fixes and found your problem. I then had to register and then lost your original post.
Did your fix work?
Did you have to remove the broken part or just open it up to get the sealant in.
When the weather gets better and after I have had the lintels below done I'm going to tackle my cill problems.

Thanks Ian.

Are you going to repair cracked cills with flashband?
