Aspestos ?

I had it round the foot of an ancient wooden garage I was dismantling. The method I used was :

1. Hold your breath and kick f##k out it and run away.
2. Return 30 mins later and hold breath again and start bagging.
3. Run away when you can't hold breath any longer.
4. Return once breathing returns to normal.
5. Repeat process until all bagged.
6. Take a few bags at a time mixed with household waste to local recycle centre to general waste skip.

Worked for me!

Most Councils offer a service for householders to dispose of small quantities of bonded asbestos waste, other than that it's nothing to do with them. Movement/disposal of any greater quantity is regulated by the Environment Agency.

Classed as hazardous waste, the load will need an EA 'consignment note', giving details of producer, carrier and disposer, and can only be taken to a landfill site licenced to accept asbestos waste. Consignment note must be kept by all parties for minimum of 3 years. Trying to get round the paperwork may only cause problems, the EA have limitless resources, (c/o the taxpayer of course), to pursue any business bending the rules.......

The job I am quoting for at the moment involves replacing some garage roofs for a block of four flats. I have met three of the four occupants and they are women in there 80s/90s and have been quoted 1200-1500 quid just to take the aspestos sheets away, which I find discriminating because if they still drove and had there own Vehicle they would be able to take it away for nothing to the local council tip.

Do they have a relative with a vehicle who could provide transport? That is a ridiculous amount for what would basically amount to transport.

That's a lot of asbestos even 4 small garages will be something like 30sq metres.
I know it's pretty heavy so I looked it up and its quoted at around 14kg sq metre!
I doubt the council will take that much free from a householder our council will take a max of 4 sheets, about half a garage roof
