Attached Pergola - best method to fix to ledger plate?

I'm part way through my decking project which incorporates a lean to Pergola.

Is it acceptable to notch the rafters and sit them on the ledger plate, then screw down through from the top (exterior wood glue at joint also?) - or would this weaken the rafters too much?

I'll use mini joist hangers if notching is a no no.

The pergola spans 2.4m in both directions, and I am using 6x2 for beam and ledger, and 4x2's for the rafters.

Any advice appreciated?

you could happily notch a 6x2 but notching a 4x2 you'd end up with a 2x2 spanning over 2 metres, notching 6x2's will probably be cheaper than buying hangers depending on how many you have to do.
