Hi all,

I have read all through the posts above, and see what you sall say about a colder winter, inadequate insulation etc, but......

My old back boiler broke about a week ago and since then I have been heating the house as best I can using just 2 oil filled rads and for the last 2 days an extra 2 halogen heaters.

Anyway, got the new boiler installed yesterday. Water fine, rads hot, etc etc, but it refuses to reach temperature. I set it to 22.5c last night (about 5pm) and by 10pm the rads were still going and temp in the lounge was still reading 19c (and dropped some more to 18c by the time I went to bed). I too probably have inadequate insulation but the old boiler was hitting the temps I requested, even in THIS winter with the extra coldness.

Could it be that the brickwork and house generally have been so cold for so long that it will take a lot longer for the new boiler to heat the house? or is there an issue here. My worry is that doing a bit of googling has shown me that there are a few issues like this.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

Nick

Hi Nick

Welcome to the forum, for future reference, it's best if you start your own thread, adding to someone else's is known as "Hijacking" See rule 6 here

It may be because the fabric of the house is cold. In the winter if I go away for a few days, even when I leave the heating on low, it can take 2 or 3 days after I get back before things get back to normal.

If you're worried about the boiler, there's an easy check, purchase a clip on thermometer from a DIY outlet or plumbers merchant (only a few ££'s), clip it to the flow pipe from the boiler. open up all of the radiators to simulate maximum demand, and let the system heat up to working temperature.

Check that the temperature indicated on the thermometer is the same temperature as set at the boilers thermostat.

If it does make the set temperature, the boiler is doing exactly as it's told. If it's not, post back the results.

If your boilers doesn't have temperature figures on the thermostat, or a digital display, the manual should tell you what range is available.
