A small piece of - I think - walnut shell got caught under a table mat, which was then moved around a bit. Cut a long story short, just a few minutes ago I spotted quite a mish-mash of scratches on my pine kitchen table. It's 16 years old and, after a couple of house moves, a little bashed in places, but nothing that really stood out until now. Right now it looks as if someone's taken a pen to it and scribbled all over the place.

I've tried polishing it, but it's not made much difference. Is there anything much I can do? Revarnish etc? Or is that a waste of time?

How can you guess that I know nothing about DIY? :)

If anyone has some useful advice - many thanks, in advance.

James
