Hello to all.My victorian flat requires re-pointing. The bricks are red engineering bricks, with very tight motar joints. I am trying to find info on 'bag rubbing the brickwork with mortar incorporating a red die, followed by coating with boiled linsead oil. Is this the correct method, or Have I got it drastically wrong ? Any help would be appreciatedRegardsIan

You will have a difficult job bag rubbing and existing wall. Bag rubbing involves rubbing dry mortar into newly laid [wet] joints

You are better off repointing it flush with a trowel, and then going over the joints with a block of wood or piece of rubber or similar to leave the joints flush with the bricks

Is your pointing very tight white joints? It could be tuck pointing which is a thin line of lime putty super imposed on top of a coloured mortar joint.
Bag rubbing is usually done on something like the back of a 9 inch wall which is going to be painted and the joints just need filling but a good finish is not too important.

Thanks folks. The brickwork and joints are the same colour. I guess its the normal pointing method to use. Thanks again
