Can anyone tell me what's the difference between a 'Part 1' and a 'Part 2' ball valve? I am trying to get a replacement for a siezed ball valve on a cold water tank . i take it i can get this from any well known DIY store ?
Part 1 has a piston/washer and needs a double check(non return) valve to protect main water from backflow---part 2 has diaphragm washer and needs no protection
I think it's the way the water comes out of the valve. The old valves, the water comes out underneath so if the tank fills, the tank water can get sucked back into the supply.
The newer valves, the water comes out at the top with a tube attached that leads back down - the tube is only a loose fit so cannot siphon water into the valve. Then there are the latest hi-tech valves which also comply with the part2 regs.
