Banging noises keep coming from the boiler. First time, the pilot light went out and the plumber relit it and the problem did not recur for a week. Second time, a plumber came to replace the pump. Third time a week later, the pilot light went out and re-ignited itself in the morning but there is no hot water. The valves at the top of the boiler keep letting off air and rattling now. Any clues on what the problem could be or what I should be looking for?

Your system is probably over thirty years old if not more & wants shooting.Try upgrading to sexy new combi or continue paying out & flogging a near dead horsey.

Sounds like a circulation problem, could be clogged up, certainly needs a major overhaul, do you have a bank account ;)

Your some sort of heating engineer Bamber.

Bet the OP wishes you was near by for a repair.

Make and model of boiler would help....But banging and pilot outage could be down to faulty boiler stat or sticking gas valve
