Hi,

Im having trouble with my letterbox banging in the wind and keeping me up all night. Tried replacing it but it is a bespoke size and this cannot be done without replacing the whole door.

Have contemplated a spring but with this attached to the spindle it will not affix to the door.

Help appreciated.

Photo would help.
And generally you have to "chisel" a little out to accommodate the spring but the cover plate covers that.

Just fit a new larger letter box with spring, you will have to make the hole bigger. Get a chippy with a router.

It is a PVC door.

When you say "chisel" something out of the letter plate you mean just take a slight bit of the metal groove out? Havent got a camera handy but will try and upload a photo asap

My mother had a 10" letterbox that had broken, so I just replaced it with a 12". At least she gets all the post through and not hanging out.

Yeah good idea Andy, I think that this will probably be easier in the long run rather than fiddling around trying to repair the old one...it will probably make the door look a bit newer too.

Thanks for all the replies

self adhesive magnetic strip? self adehsive velcro strip?

Pick up some of those red rubber bands, there's usually a trail of them between the gate and the front door of most British houses.
Catch it over the corner of your letter box and secure it inside the door. I have two of them stopping my letterbox from rattling.
