Morning everyone, hope you can assist with the following - apologies if it's quite long, want to get as much detail down as possible.
System is gravity-fed, open vented, with cold water and feeder/expansion tanks in loft, Ideal Icos condensing boiler and H/W cylinder upstairs. Boiler is six years old, was serviced earlier in the year.
I've had the H/W on morning and evening throughout the summer, with CH off - no problems. Have recently turned CH on, but only to one or two rads, have kept the other valves shut. Have noticed that after open rads heat up the boiler starts making banging noises when calling for gas and trips off. Sounds like trapped air, but can't be certain. I opened all the other valves on other rads and bled throughout (no air trapped in any that I could tell) and boiler seems to run fine. Turned some off again and problem recurred.
The other issue which may or may not be connected is a drop in pressure to the mixer tap in the bathroom sink: this is not pump-boosted, unlike the shower and bath taps. Pressure was never that great, but is now pathetic. Doesn't matter whether it's drawing hot or cold water or a mixture.
Looked at my loft cold water and F/E tanks this morning, the former seemed to have a great big bin liner in it, poss insulation (not put there by me!), I take it this should be removed? Or could it be something else serving a useful purpose?
If anyone could advise what the problem with the boiler is, and whether the drop in pressure in the tap is connected, I'd be grateful. Why should only having one or two rads heat up be a problem as opposed to whole system? Happy to clarify anything or answer any other questions to best of my knowledge.
